Air Transportation

 Introduction

Air transport is an aircraft design for transporting passengers and freight from one location to another in the air using airplanes, jets, rockets, helicopters and drones. Air transport is the fastest means of movement from one place to the other. It has reduced distances by minimizing the travel time. It is very essential for a vast country like India, where distances are large and the terrain and climatic conditions are diverse. Air transportation can be separated into two general classifications i.e. National and International flights Flights from one to another within the same country are called domestic or national flights. Flights from a point in one country to  a point within a different country are known as international flights.

Air transportation is a highly specialized area that involves the movement of goods and people across the air. This can include any aircraft, such as commercial and non commercial airplanes or helicopters. In recent years, travelling by air has become one of the most preferred methods of transportation. Air transport is an important enabler to achieving economic economic growth and development. Air transport facilitates integration into the global economy and provides vital connectivity on a national, regional and international scale. It helps generate trade, promote tourism, and create employment opportunities.

Stages Of Air Transportation In Foreign Trade

1) Express Air Services

Express Air Service means our cargo is hoping on a flight straight to its destination. The purpose of using air express shipping is to ensure the quick and safe delivery of items that are either time - sensitive or too valuable to send by other means. Thus, at times when we urgently want to send a letter, a document or a package to someone living in another state or country, air express shipping is the way to go.

There are huge benefits of express air services. Our cargo is less likely to suffer from damage. Also, since it is on a direct flight to its destination, it will get there significantly faster than other modes of shipping, so this is an incredibly beneficial type of air shipping for companies that need to get there products overseas as faster as possible.

2) Standard Air Services

A standard air service may fly direct to destination, it usually includes one or two stops along the way. These stops are meant for sake of deconsolidating and reconsolidating cargo. While standard air service tends to be a bit slower than express air service, it's still a fast mode of shipping. The most obvious benefit to standard air service is that usually rates will be reduced a fair amount. This means lower freight bills for near same performance delivery.

3) Deferred Air Services

The last and cheapest type of air service is "Deferred Air Service". As we might imagine, deferred air service is the same thing for more stops. This is convenient for air carriers as they can count on large bulks of air cargo shipments being shipped from main airports to their various smaller airports. This keeps airport congestion low at their main airport and defers the work to smaller cargo aircraft down the line. Deferred air shipping is the cheapest type of air transportation, but it's almost always the case that LCL will still be cheaper than most air shipping models.

Advantages Of Air Transportation

1) It is the fast speed means of transport. Passengers and goods can be transported easily from one place to the other.

2) Unlike railways and road transport, there is no need to spend money on the construction of any track or road, only airports have to be constructed.

3) An airway has great strategic importance. It can be used for internal and external security.

4) It is quite convenient to send costly, light and perishable goods through air transport.

5) Air transport is free from physical barriers like river, mountains and valleys etc.

6) Air transport is useful for aerial spray on pests and insects which cause harm to crops.

7) During earth quake, flood, accidents and famine air transport is used for rescue operations.

Disadvantage Of Air Transportation

1) Air transport is a costly service compare to railway and road transport services. Its operational costs are too high. Middle class and poor people can not affect its cash.

2) Flights are subject to delay or cancellation.

3) We will need to pay taxes at each airport we use.

4) Fuel and currency surcharges will usually be added to freight costs.

5) Further transportation may be needed from the destination airport to the final destination.

6) For creating aviation facilities, huge investments are required. The cost of aeroplanes, construction and maintenance of aerodromes and control mechanism needs a capital expenditure.

7) Air transport is prone to accidents. A small mistakes can be very dangerous for passengers. Hijack of planes is easily possible.

Conclusion

Air transport is the fastest means of movement from one place to the other. It has reduced distances by minimizing the travel time. Air transportation have advantages as well as disadvantages also.
